Engineering
I started with software engineering and grew into the systems around it: security, infrastructure, networks, automation, and the operational realities that make technology useful.
I’m Micah Oltmann - a Colorado-based engineer and technology leader who moves comfortably between cybersecurity, infrastructure, operations, and business strategy.

I earned my degree in Software Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology, but my career has never stayed in a single lane. I’ve worked across government, retail, media, and manufacturing, solving problems where technology and people meet.
Today, my work spans cybersecurity strategy, technical services, infrastructure, and company leadership. I care about building systems that are resilient and understandable, then giving people the confidence to use them well.
My best work happens at the intersections, where engineering judgment, business context, and hands-on execution all matter.
I started with software engineering and grew into the systems around it: security, infrastructure, networks, automation, and the operational realities that make technology useful.
I’ve led technical strategy, built teams and service stacks, and translated difficult technical decisions into clear business outcomes for organizations of every size.
I’m happiest close to the problem: learning the system, finding the constraint, and working across disciplines until the solution is practical, secure, and real.
I build secure, scalable technology programs and lead the people and operations behind them. My experience spans government, retail, media, manufacturing, and commercial environments.
Lead cybersecurity strategy, governance, risk, compliance, cloud and endpoint security, and the growth of managed services, infrastructure, and broadcast technology offerings. Guide technical teams, business operations, vendor strategy, government contracting, and physical security programs.
Direct operations across three retail locations and a headquarters office within a 40-person organization. Strengthen identity governance, incident response, network segmentation, POS security, compliance, communication, and operational performance.
Performed red-team testing and vulnerability assessments for classified environments, developed DoD-hardened architectures, supported DevSecOps and defense-in-depth practices, and worked extensively with RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and Elastic.
Supported secure CI/CD pipelines, automated infrastructure deployments, strengthened security baselines, and implemented proactive monitoring across development environments.
Built practical foundations in network engineering, DNS, endpoint protection, firewalls, switches, servers, campus systems administration, uptime, and end-user support.
Outside of work, I’m still usually exploring, building, solving, or heading somewhere new with Newton.

I’m part of RMA Rejects, a CTF team built around curiosity, problem solving, and learning together. CTFs keep my technical instincts sharp, while security-focused hardware such as USB Rubber Duckies and O.MG cables gives me more ways to explore how systems work.
Scuba diving, travel, and time at the range give me different ways to explore, focus, and keep learning outside familiar environments.
A good day usually includes time with Newton, my husky-malamute, whether we are getting outside or simply relaxing at home.
Reading, puzzles, and cooking satisfy the same curiosity I bring to engineering: understand the pieces, try something new, and enjoy the process.
My operating principle
“Build trust through honest work,
thoughtful leadership, and consistent results.”
